Post Christmas Decor Blah? Winter decor ideas!

So we loved our Merry decor, but now it's down and the house is looking bare! Many crafters have moved right on to Valentine's Day, but not here. Early January is a great time for basic winter decor. After Christmas I started working on some pieces for our bay window. (Do note, links to all items used can be found at the end of the post.) But here is how it all came together.

First project was transitioning a Chalk Couture pillar board to a "shadow box". I used the 5"x7" Dashing through the Snow transfer with Bright White Paste. After making sure that paste was thoroughly dry, I hot glued some mini sisal trees to inside lip of the frame. Again, wait until the hot glue is thoroughly dry then sprinkled in some sparkling craft snow. Then used my Bearly Art glue to glue a sheet of Shrinky Dink plastic to the front of the frame. While I used to loyally use a different brand of wet adhesive (Art Glitter Glue) for paper crafting, I recently switch to Bearly Art Glue. The tip system is so much better I think. And in this case, it dried completely clear which was perfect for the shadow box affect. Finally, why Shrinky Dink plastic? I find it to be much less clingly so the snow moves well underneath and it's super clear.

Here's the end result:

Next up, I used the Winter Deer Transfer on the Chalk Couture Deer Cut Outs. These cut outs were very popular this Christmas, but they also are perfect for general decor. For mine, I used Camel and Bark paste colors.

Didn't the deer come out great?

Last up was the big 18"x18" Sylvie Chalk Couture board. I had previously used this big board for my spring decor, but I washed off that design using my Chalk Couture board eraser & water to make a fresh board. The Sylvie boards are a larger investment, but I love that I can use it over and over and over again as I change my seasons. For this board, I combined 2 transfers: Winter Wishes - Trees and Winter Wishes - Deer. About 2 years ago, Chalk Couture started creating collections. Collections are several transfers that work really well together. It takes out the guess work! Paste colors used were: Bright White, Shimmer Frost, Colonial Blue, Cadet & Regal. Finally, I used my splatter brush in a bit of REALLY watered down Bright White paste for the snow effect.

I'll put up Valentines decor in about 2 weeks, but for now, I'm loving my winter inspired tableau. Here is is all together. Which piece do you like best?
